Police use tear gas against protesters outside Maracana Stadium in Rio
Police used tear gas against demonstrators at the Maracana Stadium in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, where the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games was held on Friday, The Washington Post reports.
The demonstrators marched protesting against what they called "The Exclusion Games" and set a Brazilian flag and a Rio 2016 volunteer T-shirt on fire, the newspaper said on Friday. After that, police fired tear gas and a percussion grenade at the demonstrators.

Brazil is hosting the Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21, 2016. It is the first South American country to host the competition.

Over the past year, the local public has been frustrated over Brazil`s decision to host the Games as the country faced a pile of domestic problems, including the notorious Zika virus, President Dilma Rouseff`s impeachment, and general economic decline.

A peaceful protest against the Olympic Games was held near the Maracana Stadium on Friday afternoon. Demonstrators have also protested as the Olympic torch traveled around the Rio area.
