Paris` iconic Eiffel Tower on lockdown as armed police search crowds
The Eiffel Tower in Paris has been evacuated by authorities for an unknown reason, as armed police search tourists.
All areas surrounding the iconic landmark have been cordoned off and eyewitnesses have described a large police presence.

Authorities have provided no explanation for the lockdown at this time, though some reports suggest a suspicious package may have been the cause.

France is on high alert following the Bastille Day attack in Nice that killed at least 84 people. Last November, terrorists conducted coordinated attacks across the city, leading to the deaths of at least 130 people.

Earlier on Friday, authorities arrested a man suspected of plotting a terror attack in the French capital.
