Baku court cuts back on prison term of Belgian citizens arrested over producing fake money
The Baku Court of Appeal on Friday held a hearing on the basis of an appeal filed by Belgian citizens—Maput Martial and Hongla Samuel—both of whom had been arrested for producing fake money.

Their prison term has been reduced from six to four years in jail.

Note that the Belgian citizens had been detained on April 3, 2015.

As a result of the operation conducted by the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Cameroon-born Belgian citizens Maput Martial and Hongla Samuel while attempting to sell 10,000 fake US dollars in exchange for 5,000 US dollars.

10,000 fake US dollars, one color printer and a variety of chemical substances were found and seized from their house in Khirdalan, which they had rented.

Investigative actions made it clear that they were planning to produce fake US dollars and put them into circulations for the purpose of making a great deal of money, thinking of an expected flow of tourists into Azerbaijan on the eve of the Baku-2015 first European Games and the fact that foreign currency would then be widely used.

The Belgian citizens were sentenced to 10 years in prison under the judgment of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.
