Turkish journalist attacked on the street in Rio
Turkish journalist Canan Kaya from Dogan News Agency told AIPS that she was attacked on the street in Rio de Janeiro`s downtown neighborhood Lapa on Friday morning.

"I was leaving Lapa to come to the Main Press Center, it was around 9am in the morning. Three young guys from the street attacked me, one of them hit me in the face and then they threw me down on the ground, I shouted, there was people passing but nobody stopped to help. I did everything I could to defend myself and they ran away because of all the noise I kept on making. They didn`t take anything.

"What it is completely disappointing is that I was shaken up and crying trying to find someone willing to help me. There were volunteers and Rio 2016 Organizing Committee staff 150 meters away from where it happened: I went to them immediately and no one managed to help me. No one told me where to go or who to speak with. I was really upset and the fact there I was left all alone, made me feel even worse".

As reported by Globo.com also yesterday a group of French tourists was attacked on the afternoon of Friday (12), at Rua Joaquim Murtinho in the same place where it did happen to Kaya.

According to the PM, the suspects committing the crime would be two smaller age.Police 5th BPM (Harmony Square) were triggered in the event and took two suspects to the police station to be recognized by the victims.
