It looks as if some war is taking place on roads - Azerbaijani MP
“The number of traffic accidents in Azerbaijan and the statistics of consequent deaths are terrible. Every 100 car accidents result in the death of some 33 to 36 people, giving an impression as if some war is taking place on the roads,” MP Rafael Jabrayilov said at an event on traffic security held by the Center for Journalism and Development.
According to him, there is a need to raise public awareness in this regard.

“Imagine that Sweden has roughly the same number of population as our country. However, the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents there constitutes only 2%. This figure is 2.5% in Austria and 5% in Turkey. I went over these statistics a couple of years ago, and I found out that there used to be more than 1,200 mortalities from traffic accidents. Adding the injured on top of that, we see that the situation is too bad. Nevertheless, it’s gratifying that this figure dropped a little after last year’s awareness efforts,” he said.

Jabrayilov added that media has a big part to do to contribute to these awareness efforts.
