Azerbaijanis go on hunger strike in Russia
A group of 20 foreign nationals including Azerbaijanis have gone on a hunger strike for four days in the Russian city of Artyom after learning they would be deported from the country, AzVision.az reports citing Interfax.
The hunger strike ceased after representatives of the Public Control Commission visited them. The commission’s deputy chairman Alexander Smyshlyaev said that among them are people who have been expecting to be deported since Marc. He added that none of those detained in the center for three months has been sent back to their country.

The protesters also complained about the detention conditions.

Designed to host a maximum of 65 people, the center now contains 107. Most of the detainees are Uzbek citizens. The rest include Ukrainian, Azerbaijani, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, and Korean citizens.

The commission’s chairman, Vladimir Naydin, said the problem has resulted from lack of sufficient funds for deportation, adding that the commission will take care of the problem.
