Greek coast guard rescues about 70 migrants after boat runs aground
The Greek Coast Guard rescued around 70 migrants on Friday whose boat ran aground on the islet of Sapientza in southwestern Greece.
The migrants were then transferred to the mainland for registration, the Kathimerini newspaper reported.

The total number of migrants and refugees currently in Greece is estimated at about 58,000.

Since early 2015, hundreds of thousands of migrants have been trying to reach EU member states through various routes, most commonly, via Italy, Greece and Balkan states.
