PACE Bureau to hold discussion on upcoming referendum in Azerbaijan
The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will hold a discussion on the upcoming referendum in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to hold a referendum on September 26 for making amendments to the country’s Constitution.

A parliamentary delegation from Azerbaijan will tomorrow visit Paris to attend meetings of the PACE Bureau and Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, the parliament told APA on Friday.

Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, will also attend the meetings.

The agenda of the 4th PACE session to be held in October, the upcoming referendum in Azerbaijan, presidential elections in Moldova and Bulgaria, and parliamentary elections in Belarus, Jordan, Morocco, Georgia and Montenegro will be discussed at the Bureau meeting.

At the meeting of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, participants will discuss the issues of countering discrimination on the Internet, putting an end to violence against women, strengthening their rights in social life and in the economic sphere, works accomplished by the Sub-Committee on the Rights of Minorities, and the World Democracy Forum to be held in November. Sahiba Gafarova will comment on these issues.

The visit will end on September 10.

MPs Muslum Mammadov and Vusal Huseynov will pay a visit to Paris on September 5 to join the meeting of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights.

Participants will discuss issues like cooperation with International Criminal Court, democratic governance in multinational European countries, protection of citizens’ rights to investing in accordance with international agreements, etc. The MPs will comment on these issues.

The visit will end on September 7.
