Uzbek parliament to consider candidacy of acting president
Council of Uzbek Parliament’s Senate has decided to hold a joint meeting of the Senate and Legislative Chamber on Sept. 8.
This announcement was spread by Uzbekistan’s National Television.

The meeting’s agenda will include the discussions on candidacy of the country’s acting president.

Article 96 of the country’s constitution says that if Uzbekistan’s president is unable to exercise the presidential duties, head of the Senate of Parliament temporarily takes up the presidential duties and powers, and the country holds a presidential election within three months in full compliance with the law “On Election of the President of Uzbekistan.”

Currently, Nigmatilla Yuldashev is the head of the Senate.

Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov passed away Sept. 2 after suffering a stroke.
