Azerbaijan’s border guards detained 398 wanted people last month
In August 2016, Azerbaijan’s border guards detained 398 people wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, the State Border Service told APA on Sept. 12.
The border guards detained 67 people in 51 cases of violation of the state border during the reporting period.

Of them, 29 are citizens of Azerbaijan, 7 – Ghana, 5 – Iran, 5 – Uzbekistan, 4 – Nigeria, 3 – Russia, 3 – Bangladesh, 3 – Ukraine, 2 – Georgia, 2 – Moldova, 2 – Turkey, ad one from each country such as Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Twenty one persons were detained in 13 cases in the green border over violating border regime and 48 detained in 32 cases in the Caspian Sea. Some 1706 people were detained in 1123 cases at the border checkpoints.

The smuggling of drugs with total weight of over 143 kilograms was prevented last month.

As a result of measures taken, the smuggling of goods totally worth over one million manats in 67 cases including 2 rifles, a pneumatic pistol, a signal pistol, 8 anti-tank mines, 74,000 Azerbaijani manat, 11,200 US dollar, 659,700 Russian ruble, 4,181,500 Iranian rial, 10,200 boxes of cigarettes, 137 mobile phones, different medicines, industrial and agricultural products.
