UN to host meeting of OIC contact group on Karabakh conflict
The first meeting of the Contact Group, created under the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to deal with Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan, will be held in the framework of the upcoming summit of the UN General Assembly.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and OIC Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani in Baku Sept. 12.

Speaking about the latest status of the negotiations aiming to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Mammadyarov expressed gratitude to the OIC secretary general and member states for apparently supporting Azerbaijan’s right and fair position as to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The minister praised the creation of the Contact Group, expressing hope that it will contribute to settling the conflict.

As an active OIC member, Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to fulfilling issues that are on the agenda of the organization, Mammaydarov noted.

The sides also stressed the importance of strengthening Islamic solidarity within the organization.
