Non-Aligned Movement summit to express support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity
The 17th Summit of heads of state and government of the Non-Aligned Movement under the theme “Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity for Development” kicked off in Margarita Island, Venezuela on Sep.16.
The delegation led by Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov is representing Azerbaijan in the summit.

Foreign Ministry told APA that processes and achievements occurred since Tehran summit, held in 2012 will be considered, a common position of member states on international peace, security, development and cooperation will be discussed and a final document will be adopted at the end of the summit.

The summit’s agenda include some issues of direct importance to Azerbaijan. An item expressing support to settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict in keeping with the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has been added to the draft of the summit’s final document. Furthermore, it is expected that during the Venezuela summit the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for the years 2019-22 will be handed over to Azerbaijan and also the decision will be reached as to holding the 18th summit in Azerbaijan in 2019.

Elmar Mammadyarov was elected deputy chairman of the summit’s presidium and he chaired the plenary meeting in this position. He is expected to make an expanded speech at the summit.

The summit will end on Sept.18.
