Former US soldier sentenced to 30 years for plans to carry out attack
A former US National Guard soldier and his cousin were sentenced to 30 and 21 years in jail respectively for their plains to join the Daesh terrorist group and attack a military base in Illinois, local media reported.
The cousins were preparing an attack on the Joliet base where Hasan Edmonds was trained, The Wall Street Journal reported.

During the sentencing hearing on Tuesday the attorney’s office showed a video featuring Hasan explaining to a FBI undercover agent how to stage an attack on the base and saying that his military training would be useful for the Daesh.

Hasan was arrested in March 2015 at the Chicago’s Midway Airport when he tried to leave for Cairo – allegedly to join th Daesh. His cousin Jonas Edmonds, who wanted to take part in the attack on the military base, was arrested last year at home in the Chicago suburb of Aurora. The Daesh is a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia and a number of other states.
