Pakistani, Indian militaries establish contact after Indian-controlled Kashmir attack
Pakistani and Indian military officials on Sunday established contact on hotline after militants killed at least 17 Indian troopers and injured over 20 others in a suicide attack on an Indian military base in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the military said.
Indian officials have said that four militants, believed to have carried out the attack, were also killed in retaliatory fire inside the base near the Line of Control (LoC) dividing Kashmir.

The attack took place at garrison Uri town in frontier Baramulla district, about 109 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"In the backdrop of Uri terrorists attack, Pakistan and Indian army Director Generals Military Operations established hotline contact on Indian request on Sunday afternoon," the Pakistani army said.

"The latest situation along Line of Control was discussed," a statement from the army`s Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The Pakistani Director General Military Operations reiterated that no infiltration is allowed from Pakistani soil because watertight arrangements are in place on both sides of LoC and Working Boundary all along.

The Indian defense officials said the attackers entered the military base, throwing grenades and using automatic rifles to target troopers.
