`Proposed amendments to Azerbaijani Constitution aim to improve governance`
The proposed amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution are aimed at improving the governance in the country, Shahin Aliyev, head of Department of Legislation and Legal Expertise of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration.
Shahin Aliyev said during a press conference in Baku Sept. 21 that these amendments do not envisage giving additional powers to Azerbaijan’s president, establishment of vice-presidency does not give additional powers.

“This is about improving the governance,” he added.

Aliyev said the vice-presidents could be called secretaries as well.

“This is about speedy implementation of the reforms. The Venice Commission has never had a negative approach to human rights issues. Therefore, there was no need to submit the amendments related to human rights to the Venice Commission,” he added.
