Over 50,000 homes have been affected by heavy rains and flooding in Guatemala, spokesperson of the National Coordination for Disaster Reduction of Guatemala David de Leon said.
Over 70 of the affected homes have sustained moderate to severe damage, the spokesperson said as quoted by La Prensa Grafica on Friday. Thousands of Guatemala residents have been affected, directly or indirectly, by the floods.

On Thursday, the government of Guatemala declared a state of public calamity in several parts of the country amid a high risk of landslides caused by heavy rains.

The state of emergency affects the departments of Sacatepequez and Zacapa, among other regions.
