He said, the referendum was held under the Azerbaijani legislation ensuring free and fair conduct of voting.
“All of 29 amendments were sent to the Azerbaijani citizens by postmen a month before the referendum day. The observers conducted observations in Baku and 20 districts. The voting was held silently and there was unimpeded entry to the polling stations. There was no intervention by police and local officials and no problem with confidential voting. The process of inking voters’ fingers was completed appropriately and the voting was observed online via surveillance cameras. The referendum was held in keeping with international standards by a professional team. Minor technical problems at some polling stations didn’t affect the voting. A large number of local observers monitored the voting. The voting was counted freely and transparently,” he noted.
Farrugia said, the Azerbaijani people demonstrated clear support for a strong executive power.
International observers noted that ongoing war with Armenia, geopolitical instability, growing fundamentalism, terror threats, international financial and economic crises are the main causes of supporting the constitutional model enabling a strong and stable government to face any threats and challenges.
