Shikhaliyev noted that the ongoing conflicts are giving rise to the number of migrants, as a result of which millions are becoming refugees and IDPs. He said this issue will be discussed at three sessions during the round table.
Later on the film titled “State care to refugees and IDPs,” made by the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, was screened.
Addressing the discussions, Bulgarian Vice President Margarita Popova said discriminating approach to humans cause division among them.
“Radicalism and violence is raging across the world. The solution to this is to work together and say ‘No’ to war,” she said.
In his speech, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Regional Director for Europe and CIS, Cihan Sultanoglu said the number of migrants worldwide is growing at an unprecedented rate.
“5 million Syrians have been displaced in the last few years. Turkey is the country which is hosting the largest number of refugees. There are some 2 million refugees in the country. Some of them being unable to speak Turkish is too bad, especially those who receive education,” he said.
Rashid Khalikov, in turn, said that the migrants are facing discrimination and xenophobia in some countries, and have no access to education and health services.
The round table continued with individual speeches.
The 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum kicked off at the Heydar Aliyev Center, Baku on Sep.29.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the official opening ceremony of the forum.
The Baku International Humanitarian Forum was initiated in 2010 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and former Russian President, current Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
