MFA comments on Psaki`s statements regarding tension on front line
Hikmet Hajiyev: “Armenia pursues a policy to prevent the start of working on the Great Peace Agreement by all means through its provocative acts”

“The continuation of occupation of Azerbaijan`s territories and presence of the Armenian armed forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan are the main threat to peace and stability in the region,” said spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev, commenting on the statements by US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki regarding the tension on the front line.

H. Hajiyev said, as stated by the State Department spokesperson, both sides should engage in negotiations for a peace agreement.

“Unfortunately, Armenia pursues a policy to prevent the start of working on the Great Peace Agreement by all means through its provocative acts. Recent tension along the frontline is a good example of it,” he added.

Hikmet Hajiyev said Jen Psaki also hinted at the prevention of the incidents taking place on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the contact line of troops.

“The Azerbaijani side has repeatedly stated that the first step toward intercepting incidents of this kind and reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict in general should be the withdrawal of Armenia’s occupying forces from occupied Azerbaijani territories,” he noted.

Note that, J. Psaki said the US Department of State is concerned about the increasing frequency of cases of ceasefire violations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area.

“We are troubled by reports of ceasefire violations, as well as casualties in recent days. As an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country, we do continue to urge both to engage in negotiations that could lead to a peace agreement,” Psaki said.
