Ahmadov said that the creation of the Baku International Sea Trade Port is a big project in the transportation sphere, which will allow creating the first free trade zone in Azerbaijan.
If the project will work in accordance with the established procedure, it will bring benefits in 2018-2019, he noted adding that the project will also play an important role in non-oil sector’s development.
The world’s biggest companies will work here, he said, adding that companies of Dubai have already expressed their interest.
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree March 17, 2016, on measures to create a free trade zone type special economic area in the Alat township of Baku’s Garadagh district.
The draft law on the free trade zone will be discussed during the fall session of the country’s parliament.
Earlier, Azerbaijani government and Dubai Port World company (DP World, one of the world’s major port operators) signed an agreement on providing consulting services for the creation of the free trade zone in the Alat township.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port (Port of Baku) will bring billions of dollars to Azerbaijan, Vahid Ahmadov, Azerbaijani MP, member of the parliamentary committee on economic policy, industry and entrepreneurship, told reporters Oct. 5 in Baku.
