He said that since 2014 they have received information of the kidnap of only seven Azerbaijanis, of whom two are Azerbaijani citizens, two Ukrainian citizens, and three Georgian citizens.
Another 18 people are the ones who went missing during the armed conflict that erupted in Donetsk and Luhansk in 2014, the ambassador added.
Khudiyev noted that the embassy is working with Ukraine’s concerned state agencies over the crimes against Azerbaijanis in this country.
“Azerbaijan and Ukraine enjoy friendly relations that have a deep history. So these perfect relations should not be damaged by careless steps,” said the diplomat.
“It would not be right to say that Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, who is of Armenian descent, is responsible for the abduction of Azerbaijanis in Ukraine, because such crimes are committed not only against Azerbaijanis, but also Ukrainians themselves,” he said.
The ambassador added that there has not been any kidnapping gang whose identity was proved after being arrested.
“Ukrainians themselves are displeased with the way the country’s Interior Ministry works. But this does not have to do with Azerbaijanis alone. We have a new Ukraine now. Everything begins again, so we Azerbaijanis need to be careful about these issues,” said Khudiyev.
