Azerbaijan to purchase decoders in connection with transition to digital broadcasting
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and High Technologies is in talks with two foreign companies for the purchase of full HD decoders in connection with the transition to digital broadcasting in the country, Isa Mammadov, head of technical department at the National Television and Radio Council, told on Thursday.
According to him, at present, HD broadcast is available in only three local TV channels – Idman Azerbaycan (Sports Azerbaijan), CBC Sport in Baku and Absheron peninsula.

AzTV and Khazar TV channels are also expected to be broadcast in HD format, Mammadov added.

He noted, the suspension of analogue terrestrial broadcasting in the country created favorable conditions for the application of HD format.

In accordance with Article #5.1.7 of the Action Plan on the implementation of the "State Program on the implementation of the National Strategy for Information Society Development in Azerbaijan for 2016-2020 years" approved by Azerbaijan’s president on 20 September 2016, it was decided to suspend analogue terrestrial broadcasting of TV programs in Baku and Absheron peninsula by November 1, 2016 and in other districts by December 1, 2016.
