`Armenia’s access to Russian Iskander could led to a new arms race in South Caucasus`
Howard called on the US administration to react to Russia’s supplies of Iskander systems to Armenia.
“Azerbaijan also has the right to buy the appropriate weapons in Turkey, Pakistan or any other country for the purpose of defense. Azerbaijan has good relations with Israel, Pakistan, Turkey and other countries,” he said.
He noted that Azerbaijan is much stronger today than it was in 1990s, and its political significance is gradually increasing.
He recalled the success the Azerbaijani army achieved during the April events, which resulted in the return of a certain part of Azerbaijan’s territories.
“The April events proved the power of the Azerbaijani army. Thus the US woke up and stated the need to resume the Minsk process,” he said.
Howard also commented on the possible impact of the upcoming US presidential election on Azerbaijan.
“Bill Clinton during his presidency was characterized by pragmatism. Unlike Clinton, Obama chose ideological approach towards Azerbaijan. If Hilary becomes president, I think it will be the main difference between her administration and the Obama administration,” he said.
“How can the US and Russia cooperate in the Karabakh issue? The election of Hilary Clinton would be a positive factor for Azerbaijan. The election of Donald Trump may also be beneficial for Azerbaijan on certain criteria,” he added.
