Mount Aso eruption occurs in Japan, level 3 alert issued
An eruption has occurred at Mount Aso, the largest active volcano in Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency informs.
The agency issued a level 3 alert for the area on Saturday, warning people not to approach the volcano.

The eruption occurred from the Nakadake crater. This is the first time that an eruption is registered at the site in the past 36 years. Ash from the volcano covered roads and cars in the city of Aso (Kumamoto Prefecture). Mount Aso was dormant for 19 years before it erupted in September 2015.
