Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani minister informed Raphael Comte about the current situation related to the conflict’s settlement. Mammadyarov once again recalled Azerbaijan`s position and noted that the conflict must be resolved within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with the norms and principles of international law and the UN Security Council resolutions.
Speaking about the relations in economic sphere, the minister noted that more than 70 Swiss companies operate successfully in Azerbaijan and there is a huge potential for further expansion of mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
Noting Azerbaijan’s fundamental economic reforms, the availability of attractive investment opportunities, Mammadyarov invited Swiss companies to invest more actively in Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector.
The foreign minister said that important transportation projects are being implemented in the country and expressed his confidence that Swiss companies will be interested in those projects. In this context, the parties exchanged views on expansion of the cooperation between the Stadler Rail company and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
Mammadyarov said that he together with Head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Didier Burkhalter signed an agreement on the simplification of visa regime and expressed confidence that it will give a serious impetus for enhancing contacts between the two countries’ citizens.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the cooperation within the international parliamentary organizations, as well as regional issues of mutual interest.
