French president addresses PACE meeting
French President Francois Hollande delivered a speech at the plenary meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) autumn session on Tuesday.
In his speech, Hollande spoke of France’s relations with the Council of Europe and other European institutions, as well as the events taking place around the world.

As for the recent tensions in France-Russia relations, the president noted that Paris and Moscow have a major disagreement on Syria.

"With Russia, France has a major disagreement on Syria and the Russia veto on the French resolution at the UN Security Council has prevented the cessation of bombings and enablement of a truce. I consider it is necessary to have dialogue with Russia, but it must be firm and frank otherwise it has no place and it is a charade. I`m ready to meet President Putin if we can make progress on peace,” said Hollande.

France’s president also stressed the importance of the dialogue with Turkey.

“Turkey plays a very important role in the Syrian issue and continues to make great efforts on the migrant crisis,” said Hollande, recalling the attempted military coup in Turkey on July 15 this year.

“Though Turkey faced such a serious situation and declared a state of emergency, it should respect the principles and values that unite us,” he added.
