Bahar Muradova meets with ODIHR director
Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on human rights Bahar Muradova has met with the director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Michael Georg Link.
Muradova said that Azerbaijan that has passed a significant path in the period of its independence takes into account the challenges of the time, and the country’s leadership stands ready to carry out the most serious reforms, the parliament told APA on Wednesday.

She noted that the constitutional referendum recently held in Azerbaijan is a clear example of this and once again demonstrated the unity of the people and the country’s leadership.

“It was also confirmed by the conclusions of international organizations that monitored the referendum in Azerbaijan,” said Muradova, adding that Azerbaijan is willing to strengthen the equal cooperation with all OSCE institutions on the basis of mutual respect and confidence.

Praising the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence, the ODIHR director said that Azerbaijan is of great importance as a country connecting Europe and the East.

According to him, inter-religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence of people of different faiths, good attitude towards the Jews in Azerbaijan can be an example for many countries.

“Anti-Semitism in other countries inhabited by Jews is steadily growing, resulting in complicated life for Jews,” said the ODIHR director. “I’ve recently attended the event on inter-religious dialogue in Baku. I also visited the village of Mountain Jews in Azerbaijan’s Guba district and was impressed by the conditions created for them.”

At the meeting, Muradova spoke about the project on “Multiculturalism - as a democratic value” by member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, MP Tahir Mirkishili, calling on Link to support the document during its presentation at the Assembly.

The sides also discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and a number of issues of mutual interest.
