Azerbaijani MP harshly responds to Armenian colleagues’ criticism regarding Turkey
A current affairs debate on the situation in Turkey in the light of the attempted military coup was held in the framework of the PACE autumn session on Oct. 13.

Samad Seyidov, Azerbaijani MP, head of the country’s delegation to PACE, harshly responded to his Armenian colleagues who criticized Turkey during the debate, calling their behavior unacceptable and hypocrisy.

The Azerbaijani MP stressed that a terrorist organization, taking advantage of the democratic benefits in Turkey, attempted to overthrow the government in the country.

“My Turkish colleagues and friends have rightly noted the Turkish people are a supporter of democracy and this is the main guarantee of democracy in the country,” said Seyidov.

According to him, Turkey is currently facing three threats.

“First, the terrorist organizations within Turkey are trying to take advantage of the democratic situation in the country,” said the delegation head. “Second, Turkey is struggling not only against FETO (Fetullah Gulen Terrorist Organization), but also against the “Islamic State” and other terrorist organizations which try to undermine the democratic freedoms in the country.”

“And finally, the last threat comes from the organization, in which we find ourselves, because we are witnessing double standards here. Imagine that a country, which has occupied 20 percent of my country’s territories, criticizes Turkey, claiming there is no democracy in this country. This is unacceptable and is nothing more than hypocrisy,” he added.
