Next EU-Azerbaijan subcommittee meeting to be held in mid-Dec
The fourth EU-Azerbaijan subcommittee on energy, transport and environment will hold a meeting in Baku in mid-December, Dirk Schuebel, head of the European External Action Service Eastern Partnership Bilateral Division, told reporters in Baku Oct. 14.
“I don’t have to explain here in Azerbaijan how important energy cooperation is. It is an area in which we have already established a strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan,” he said.

Schuebel noted that the Southern Gas Corridor will be discussed at the meeting in December.

“We will discuss all areas of energy cooperation, including electricity, gas and oil cooperation. Azerbaijan is situated in a geographically very advantageous situation between Europe and Asia. So we will discuss the transport corridors and many areas of cooperation,” he added.

Three subcommittee meetings were held in Baku this week, the EU representative recalled.

“We are very pleased that we could resume our cooperation after having interrupted these meetings for more than two years. The meeting was very intensive. I think we could have discussed even one day longer. So many views were exchanged on both sides. The talks took place in a very positive and constructive atmosphere. Perhaps we do not agree on all topics in detail, but we had a very respectful exchange of views. So I think we can draw very positive conclusions from this meeting. The main conclusion is that we have to meet more often,” said Schuebel.
