Belgian police detains man armed with knife who held hostages

Belgian police detains man armed with knife who held hostages

A hostage situation that unfolded in a Carrefour supermarket in Vorst, outside of Brussels, has ended following the suspect`s surrender, Sputnik reported.

Reports suggest that a single man armed with either a knife or a gun held 15 people hostage following a failed robbery attempt.

The special units of the Federal Police were called to the scene, and the area was sealed off.

According to newspaper Derniere Heure, witnesses report that the hostage taker`s only statement was that he "doesn`t want to go to jail." The situation ended without incident.
