The moderator of the conference was Prof. Denise Brühl-Moser, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Switzerland told APA on Thursday.

Professor of Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) at Ruhr University Bochum, Hans-Joachim Heintze, postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Global Public Law, Koç University in Istanbul Valentina Azarova, head of Austrian law firm, Lansky, Ganzger und Partner (a third party who represents Azerbaijan’s interests in the ECHR case), permanent representative of Azerbaijan to ECHR Chingiz Asgarov and head of Merger Consulting Rahmi Dogan gave lectures at the conference.

The rapporteurs first drew attention to the historical and judicial aspects of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, sharing their thoughts as to why the Armenian population of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region should determine their own fate within Azerbaijan.

They went on to analyze the pieces of evidence presented by both sides and their assessment by court as well as the court’s judgment in that regard. They emphasized that despite having not intended to assess the aggression fact directly, the court proved in conclusion that the Armenia has been a party to the conflict since the very beginning. Therefore, the rapporteurs confirmed that an invasion fact has really taken place and part of Azerbaijani territory invaded by Armenia.

Attended by representatives of Swiss scholastic and political authorities, federal government bodies and embassies accredited in Bern as well as Swiss university students, the conference proceeded in an interactive way.
