`Azerbaijan, Croatia are strategic partners`
Azerbaijan and Croatia are strategic partners and friends, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in a statement for the press following the meeting with his Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Baku Oct. 24.
“We had the opportunity to discuss issues of bilateral ties during the conference on Syria that took place in London early this year. And today we had extensive discussions on a number of bilateral, regional, and security issues of mutual interest as well as cooperation and trade,” said Ilham Aliyev.

He noted that there is a very high level of mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and Croatia as to developing bilateral cooperation.

The head of state said that there is a strong legal framework for cooperation.

“During my official visit to Croatia three years ago, we signed a declaration on strategic partnership and friendship. This is the core document, whose name suggests how important it is. So we’re strategic partners and friends. Croatia is one of the countries we have been cooperating with for years,” added President Aliyev.

According to him, the declaration on strategic partnership and friendship covers all areas of cooperation.

Political ties between Azerbaijan and Croatia stand at a high level, said the president, adding that Croatian president’s visit to Azerbaijan shows the two countries’ active cooperation within international organizations, including the UN, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.

He said the EU-Azerbaijan partnership was thoroughly discussed at today’s meeting with the Croatian president.

“I’m grateful to Croatia for supporting the rapprochement between the EU and Azerbaijan,” said Ilham Aliyev.

He stressed that Azerbaijan is currently working on the future format of cooperation with the EU.

Azerbaijan has already signed strategic partnership declarations with nine EU countries, said Ilham Aliyev, calling this a good potential for the signing of an agreement between Azerbaijan and EU.
