Lebanon elects new president, ending years-long political stalemate
Lebanon`s parliament has elected General Michel Aoun as the country`s new president.
After more than two years of political stalemate, General Michel Aoun has been elected by Lebanon`s parliament as the new president.

Lawmakers in Lebanon voted in Gen. Michel Aoun as the new president of the Middle Eastern republic Monday, ending Lebanon`s two-and-a-half-year political crisis. A total of 83 out of 126 voting lawmakers cast their ballots for Aoun. giving the 81-year-old former prime minister a needed parliamentary majority on the fourth attempt.
