Iran says process of lifting visa regime with Azerbaijan continues in stages
The process of lifting the visa regime between Iran and Azerbaijan is taking place in stages, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said Monday.
Qasemi noted that Iran is trying to lift the visa regime with neighboring countries.

“This is our general policy and we are discussing this issue with other countries, one of them Azerbaijan. After the talks, we decided to lift the visa regime in stages,” he said.

As for the Syrian conflict, the spokesman said Iran’s involvement in the process is taking place at the request of Syria’s government, which he said was elected by the parliament and the people.

“This is a legitimate government. It’s unacceptable of some circles trying to topple any legitimate government whenever they want to,” Qasemi added. “The second issue is counterterrorism. In case Syria is overtaken by terrorists, the situation will be far worse. Now all the sides agree that there is no alternative to the legitimate government in Syria.”
