Obama begins oval office meeting with US President-elect Trump
US President Barack Obama has begun a meeting with his successor, President-elect Donald Trump, in the Oval Office to discuss the United States’ transition of executive power following Trump’s election victory this week.
The White House meeting, at Obama’s invitation, was scheduled to begin Thursday at 11 a.m. EST (16:00 GMT).

On Wednesday, Obama said in a post-election speech, that a smooth transfer of power is a "hallmark of US democracy."

Hours before the president spoke, Republican nominee Trump declared victory in Tuesday’s election against Democrat Hillary Clinton, shocking the political establishment and sparking protests that continue.
