30 arrested in protests against Dakota access pipeline in US
Around 30 people were arrested in protests opposing the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline in the state of North Dakota near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, local media reported.
According to the KFYR-TV channel, the protests took place on Friday. The unrest led to the closure of highways, while protesters also vandalized construction equipment.

The planned $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline will transport domestically-produced light crude oil from North Dakota through the states of South Dakota and Iowa into Illinois. The Standing Rock Sioux Reservation claims the pipeline will affect their water sources and violate sacred places, including burial sites. The tribe has been joined by numerous Native American tribes as well as human rights activists and environmentalists.
