Leukemia patients in Azerbaijan to undergo hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
More than 2,500 people, including 300 children are listed as leukemia patients in Azerbaijan.
The abovementioned is reflected in the “Action Program for combating malignant haematological disorders for 2017-2021” approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the document, death from malignant haematological disorders makes 6-10% of total deaths from malignant tumors. This figure is high (about 50%) among children and young people. Another concerning points is that leukemia is one of the main causes of death among children under the age of 15 along with infectious diseases.

According to the State Program, the Health Ministry was instructed to develop medical registry of malignant haematological disorders in 2017-2018.

The Health Ministry is due to carry out hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to leukemia patients from 2017.

The ministry was also instructed to provide the patients suffering from malignant haematological disorders with cytostatic and innovative medicines and meet their demand for blood components in 2017-2021.
