`Promotion of intercultural, interreligious dialogue among priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy`
The promotion of intercultural and interreligious dialogue is among the priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in an interview with EFE Agency of Spain.
The minister reminded that Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, hosted the 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in April 2016, underlining that the country closely cooperates with the Alliance.

Azerbaijan highly appreciates Spain’s support to the UN Alliance of Civilizations, said Mammadyarov, adding that in recent years there has been very positive dialogue between Baku and Madrid.

Regarding Azerbaijan-EU ties, the FM stressed that two important anniversaries were marked in 2016.

“The 20th anniversary of the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and 10th anniversary of Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic partnership between EU and Azerbaijan in the field of energy were marked this year,” Mammadyarov said. “Over the last two decades, relations with the EU have passed through different phases that have led to closer and mutually beneficial cooperation in many fields.”

He noted that Azerbaijan, as a country with rich hydrocarbon resources, makes an important contribution to the energy security of the EU by exporting significant volumes of crude oil to European markets.

The minister pointed out that the work is underway on the Southern Gas Corridor project, intended for the export of Azerbaijani gas to Europe in the framework of cooperation with the EU.

As for Azerbaijan-Russia ties Mammadyarov said bilateral relations are of a strategic partnership.
