Restored relations with European Parliament bother some anti-Azerbaijan circles
The recent restoration of ties between the Azerbaijani Parliament and the European Parliament and its growing tendency bother many forces within the European Parliament and some anti-Azerbaijani circles, the Azerbaijani Parliament said in a statement on Nov. 15.

“This in turn has manifested itself in a deliberate negative mention of Azerbaijan in some of the amendments to the document titled “the EU annual report on human rights and democracy in the world”, which is meant to be adopted in the European Parliament’s plenary session,” reads the statement.

“This 2015 report does not contain any issue of concern to Azerbaijan. However, amendments 104 and 750 made by several MPs were biased against our country and were subjective,” said the parliament.

“It is noted that in September of this year an EP delegation visiting Azerbaijan was received by President Ilham Aliyev, who reminded the MEPs of the conceptual approach on bilateral ties. This led to the restoration of ties between the European Parliament and the Azerbaijani Parliament,” the parliament said in the statement.

“At the same time this led to Azerbaijan’s position to be more clearly understood in the European Parliament and earned us more circles who favor comprehensive relations with our country,” said the statement. “Thus, MEPs rejected the amendments. The Azerbaijani Parliament, in turn, took relevant steps. Samad Seyidov, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on international and interparliamentary relations, sent a letter to Elmar Brok, chairman of the European Parliament`s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Javanshir Feyziyev, co-chairman of the European Union (EU)-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee sent a letter to his European counterpart Sayyad Karim, and head of the Azerbaijani delegation to Euronest PA Fuad Muradov sent a letter to Ms. Heidi Hautala, co-president of the Euronest PA Heidi Hautala regarding the issue. As a result of the steps and measures taken in time, the aforementioned amendments were not supported at the session of European Parliament`s Committee on Foreign Affairs and rejected.”

According to the statement, this once again shows that rational forces that are interested in the comprehensive development of relations between the EU and Azerbaijan, as well as relations between the European Parliament and the Azerbaijani Parliament have become even stronger.

“There is also mutual political will in taking Azerbaijan’s relations with the EU and its institutions to the level of strategic partnership in the line with policy set up by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev,” said the statement.
