8 dead, 13 missing in fire near hotel for Obama, other APEC guests
At least eight people died and 13 went missing Wednesday in a fire that broke out in a cinema located next to the hotel in Lima, Peru where some APEC summit attendees, including US President Barack Obama planned to stay, a local police representative told Sputnik.

The global summit will bring together presidents from the United States, Russia, China and other countries this week.

"Up to now, it`s 8 dead and 13 missing," a police representative for Miraflores district in Lima said.

The movie theater is located inside the Larcomar seaside mall that is just in front of the Marriott hotel, where the US delegation was planning to stay for APEC Economic Leaders` Week.

13 people were missing at the Larcomar commercial center. US President Barack Obama was scheduled to stay at a hotel in front of the mall during the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit that Peru is hosting this week, local media reported.

The causes of the fire are under investigation, Larcomar said in a statement.

The White House declined to comment.
