The blast occurred in the city’s downtown on Wednesday evening, WLS-TV said citing Fulton County Emergency Services officials.
Peoria Journal Star said that at least one fatality has been confirmed in the explosion.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear.
Canton is the largest city in Fulton Country in the US state of Illinois with a population of over 14,000.
