The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Indonesian, Malaysian and Philippine defense ministers on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting held this week in Laos. On Thursday, the Indonesian defense minister stressed that the initiative of the joint army training was a "part of a concrete action" taken by ASEAN member states to secure the region. ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
