During the summit, the leaders of the 21 APEC states are expected to work out a strategic vision and guidelines for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region for 2017.
"At the beginning of the working session [Putin and Obama] greeted each other and spoke briefly," Peskov said.
The White House later commented on the talks between the two leaders. Obama and Putin discussed Syria during their brief meeting and agreed that US and Russian top diplomats will continue discussing the ways to resolve the Syrian crisis.
