Indian border guard killed in cross-border shelling in Kashmir region
"Last night in heavy shelling from Pakistani side along the Line of Control in Rajouri district, four BSF Personnel sustained splinter injuries. Head Constable Rai Singh, who was seriously injured, succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of another personnel was serious," the officer was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been on the rise after 19 soldiers were killed in a cross-border raid on an Indian army base in September.
India and Pakistan have a dispute over the Jammu and Kashmir region since gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. The conflict has already provoked two wars between the countries. The Line of Control, where the deadly incident took place, separates the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir from the territory under the jurisdiction of Pakistani forces.
