Laptop containing personal data of over 134,000 US sailors hacked
The personal information of more than 134,000 current and former soldiers was accessed on a compromised laptop, the US Navy said in a press release.
The laptop was reported as compromised on October 27.

"After analysis by HPES [Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services] and a continuing Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigation, it was determined Nov. 22, 2016, that sensitive information, including the names and Social Security Numbers (SSNs) of 134,386 current and former Sailors were accessed by unknown individuals," the release stated on Wednesday.

The release noted that the Navy will notify all of the sailors affected in the next several weeks.

There is no evidence that the compromised information was misused in any way, the release added.
