6.5-magnitude earthquakes strike in Tajikistan, W. China – USGS
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck northeastern Tajikistan, close to the borders with China and Kyrgyzstan, at 14:24 GMT on Friday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake, initially reported as magnitude 6.8, struck at a depth of 75km, Reuters reported.
A strong earthquake hit Friday evening in the western Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, but there are no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage, AP said.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.5, according to the USGS. It said it was centered near the border with Tajikistan and was quite shallow, at a depth of 12km.

China’s earthquake monitoring agency said the quake occurred in Akto county in the Kizilsu Khirgiz Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang.
