Plane carrying Brazil`s Chapecoense soccer team crashes in Colombia, 76 dead - VIDEO, PHOTOS, UPDATING
A plane carrying Brazil`s Chapecoense football team has crashed in Colombia, reportedly killing some of the passengers on board. At least 10 people have been evacuated from the scene and taken to local hospitals.
Mi Oriente reported that fatalities had occurred, though it remains unclear how many people were killed.

Six people are confirmed as survivors at the moment, with three Chapecoense players among them. The names of the survivors:

Medellin police confirmed that 76 people were killed and 5 survived in the Colombian plane crash, according to preliminary data. Eighty one passengers were on board the plane.

Jose Acevedo Ossa, the local police chief, said that there were only 6 survivors in the plane crash, but one died on the way to the hospital.

"Six people were rescued alive, but [later] unfortunately one died; the rest of the passengers unfortunately died. The tragic toll is 76 victims," General Jose Gerardo Acevedo said. An aircraft carrying 72 passengers including the members of the Brazilian Chapecoense Real football team and nine crew members crashed on Tuesday after disappearing in the Colombian airspace, the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro said in a statement, adding that there may be survivors.

Rescuers do not expect to find any more survivors in the area, Jose Acevedo Ossa said. "The rescue operation is not suspended, we are at the site, but we rule out the possibility of finding more survivors," he said.

According to the statement, the crew reported an emergency situation during the flight citing power problems between the municipality of the Ceja and the Union in the Antioquia department.

The passengers of the aircraft that crashed after disappearing in Colombian airspace included members of the Brazilian Chapecoense Real football team.



According to media reports, the football team was on the way to participate in the South American Cup final against Atletico Nacional in a game set for Wednesday. The game was suspended due to the accident.

Sputnik reported that six people survived the crash, citing the airport the plane was traveling to.

At least 10 people were injured and evacuated from the scene, the commander of La Union fire department said, according to the website.

A press release from aviation authorities said the plane likely crashed due to electrical failure.

However, a mayor of the municipality of La Ceja, Elkin Ospina, previously said it appeared the aircraft ran out of gas, El Universo reported.

Plane with Chapecoense Brazilian professional football players reportedly crashes in Colombia at around 10:15pm local time in Cerro Gordo after disappearing in the Colombian airspace, the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro said in a statement, adding that there may be survivors.

According to local media, some 72 people were on board. The football team was going to the South American Cup final against Atletico Nacional in a game set for Wednesday.

The plane crashed en route to José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, the second largest airport in Colombia.

"Confirmed, the aircraft with registration CP2933 * transported the team @ChapecoenseReal. Apparently there are survivors," the statement said.



​​According to media reports, the crash was caused by the lack of fuel. The number of dead or injured is not reported at the moment.
