Azerbaijani population is expected to reach 9,822,000 as at end of 2017, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslumov said at the discussion of 2017 state budget at the joint meeting of the parliament’s Standing Commissions on Labour and Social Policy, Health, Family, Woman and Children Affairs, Science and Education and Culture.
He announced demographic development trends in 2017, indicators characterizing the employment and social situation of population, as well as expected changes in the main indicators of insurance-pension system: “Number of born persons will make up 159,000, annual average number of able-bodied population will reach 6.2 million, economically active population will be 95% of population. Annual average number of hired workers will reach 1,520,000. Average monthly salary for each worker will increase 3.7% to AZN 508. Number of pensioners will stand at 1,324,000, up 16,000 from current average annual number”.
