The seven-year-old, who lives in Aleppo, posts messages on the Twitter account with her mother and became even more well-known when author JK Rowling picked up her tweets.
The Harry Potter writer even made the little girl’s wish come through by sending the series of fantasy novels to Bana in Aleppo.
But now scores of concerned people have taken to social media to ask what has happened to the pair after their Twitter account appeared to be closed.
When users try to click on the Bana’s username, @AlabedBana, they are directed to a page of the social media site which says: “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist.”
One of Bana and Fatemah’s last tweets read: “We are sure the army is capturing us now. We will see each other another day dear world. Bye. –Fatemah.”
Lana Angel Nadal wrote online: “Please god let her be found alive” while the hashtag #whereisbana became widely used.
