Azerbaijan may consider redefining due number of embassies and consulates
Azerbaijani MP Samad Seyidov on Wednesday suggested redefining the due number of embassies and consulates in foreign countries.
Seyidov said Azerbaijan has 59 embassies, 9 consulates, and 5 delegations in foreign countries.

“We need to redefine how many embassies and consulates Azerbaijan needs to have in foreign countries,” the MP said, adding. “Next comes the issue of efficiency and priorities. That’s Austria’s experience; in case there is a need to open a new embassy in a foreign country, activities of all Austrian embassies are analyzed and the ones which are found out to be inefficient get closed. This way the number of embassies does not increase.”

The MP said he thinks the transition to post-oil period has to do with not only the economic model, but also foreign policy, stressing the need to conduct studies in this area.
